Old Rishworthians 51 - 0 Garforth Flanagan hat trick puts Rishworthians back on top
Match Preview Friday 24th October
Rishworthians return to league action with a home game against Yorkshire Four strugglers Garforth. They keep the same squad which cruised through the third round of the EDF Energy Junior Vase at Liverpool last week. While No 8 James Clarke is still missing, prop Martin Brook and centre Ben Porritt both come back in. The latter's return allows Max Prashad to drop back to his position at flanker. The Copley men will hope to continue winning ways against the Leeds side which has already suffered three league defeats this season.

Having got through to the fourth round of the junior vase last week, Rishworthians have been drawn at home against another Leeds side, Old Modernians. The tie is scheduled for November 22, a week before the two clubs are scheduled to meet in a Yorkshire Four league match at Copley.

Match report Saturday 25th October Yorkshire 4
Rishworthians demolished Garforth and, with other results going in their favour, found themselves back at the top of Yorkshire Four. The scoreline might also have been many more. They had three tries disallowed and threw away four clear-cut scoring opportunities.

Three tries went begging in the opening minutes as the last pass went astray. But Rishworthians kept their cool and Jamie Bloem put them ahead with a penalty. It was only then they began to look nervous, but once the first try was scored, the points began to flow.

For the second week running, they scored seven tries, with centre Chris Flanagan bagging a hat-trick and fullback Aaron Canning scoring his first touchdown on his return to the club. The opening try came from a good lineout take by Max Prashad. Bloem burst through and fed Flanagan, whose pace was too much for the opposition as he crossed for his first score. Bloem added the conversion. From then Rishworthians took complete charge. Bloem added a penalty before the Copley men scored their second try.

Right wing Joe Billing made good ground. He was well supported by prop Richard Turner. He flipped the ball to hooker Simon Edmundson, who forced his way over. Bloem converted. Just before the break, lock Chris Fox stole the ball in a maul and fed it out along the line for Billing to touch down in the corner.

Half time Rishworthians 25 - 0 Garforth

Straight from the start of the second half, Canning burst through but was stopped short and then Prashad charged down a kick and raced through to touch down, but was adjudged offside. Canning made another telling break and the ball went to Flanagan who raced in for his second. Bloem added the conversion. Flanker Tom Clough caught the ball from the restart and passed to Bloem. He sent it on to Flanagan. From his own 22, the centre tore through the opposition, who had no answer to his skill and pace, and ran in under the posts to complete his hat-trick. Bloem converted.

A somewhat controversial decision on a forward pass robbed skipper Gary Morris of a score after good work by left wing Nick Faulkner, before a fine long pass from Bloem put Canning in for a deserved try. Bloem added the conversion. Flanagan's centre partner Ben Porritt got in on the act in the dying minutes showing his pace by scything through the Garforth defence to touch down wide out. Bloem added the final conversion.
